Moving into a nursing home can be difficult for both the patient and the family. How can you prepare?

  1. Be sure to label your belongings with your name. Especially clothing. Clothing can easily be mixed up in the laundry room and sent back to the wrong room. My tip would be to use a permanent marker and label the clothing tags with the name.

  2. Send letters and cards, even if you visit frequently. When I visit my uncle's nursing home, many of the patients are sitting up front waiting for the mail. They get pretty disappointed when there is nothing there for them.
