With each passing day there is at least two more recalls of peanut butter related goods, including our favorite snacks and yes - pet treats. As of today, there are 57 recalls - each having several products. One thing is for sure: the quality control of our food industry needs to be improved. Last year it was the Tomatoes, this year Peanut Butter, what's next?
Here are a few tips to help you through this recall:
1. Check your cupboards, pantry, and refrigerator to scan for items that have been recalled, children have a way of finding those yummy treats (or in my case hiding a stash from their sibilings). Items that contain peanut butter but not on the recall list should be stored away in a safe place as the list continues to grow daily.
2. Contact friends, families, neighbors, and the elderly who may not be aware. Lend a hand in communicating this massive recall.
3. Be careful with vending machines - their inventory may not have been cleansed of recalled product with constant additions to the list daily. Leave a post-it note for the vendor or others if you see a recalled treat inside. We all need to help each other.
The FDA has set up a link to valuable information and is even on Twitter to help manage such a massive recall. Here is a complete list of recalled foods from this recall. You can search by brand, product # and/or UPC or a combination.
