September is National Yoga Month

National Yoga Month is a time to learn more about yoga and ways it can improve your way of life.

Yoga is a mind and body practice with historical origins in ancient Indian philosophy. There are many different styles of yoga, which is nice because that enables most people to practice it.

Yoga typically combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. It has many health benefits, including:
  1. Improved mental health (relieves anxiety and depression)
  2. Decreases stress; increases relaxation
  3. Reduces pain and improves flexibility
  4. Weight loss
  5. Health benefits such as reducing heart rate and blood pressure
Before starting a yoga program, seek advice from your doctor. Yoga is generally low-impact and safe for healthy people when practiced appropriately under the guidance of a well-trained instructor. But yoga should be avoided by people with specific medical conditions.

In celebration of national yoga month, over 1,600 yoga studios are offering one week free yoga. Please see this website to get all the details and find a participating studio near you.
